NHS Patients

NHS Supply of wigs during medical treatment or long term hair loss.

The Wig Studio is delighted to have been chosen to have an agreement with Nobels Hospital and the NHS on the Isle of Man.

If you need to wear a wig due to undergoing chemotherapy or other medical treatment, the hospital will give you an authorisation letter for you to bring along to your consultation, this letter is our authority  to supply you with a wig within the guidelines of the NHS.  (without it, or a direct referral from the hospital we cannot offer you the NHS subsidy).

The health service will allocate £150.00, for you to spend on your wig.  We have a varied stock of wigs to choose from that fall within this budget and are confident that you will find something to suit you.

We are happy to show you wigs from the higher price ranges too, including human hair and semi custom made wigs, should you wish to see them, if you decide to take one of these, the difference will be payable by yourself, on the day of collection and is not able to be claimed back from the NHS. We can take payment for this by cash or cheque.

For you to choose your hair replacement, the first thing you need to do is call us at the studio on 814056 or email [email protected] enclosing your contact number. We will then arrange a consultation appointment for you.  Because we are a hairdressing business too, it is usual for the person answering the phone to ask you to leave your name and contact number so that you can be called back personally, when we will have time to chat about your requirements, rather than trying to hurriedly talk whilst in the middle of another appointment.

Reservation for your consultation can be made for you during the working day, when there are likely to be other clients in the studio or we can make arrangements for you to have a private appointment when you will be the only client in the studio, whichever you feel most comfortable with. An initial consultation will normally be booked for 30-45 minutes. We can usually arrange for your visit to be within a few days of your call, and we will try to fit around your medical appointments.

Perhaps the thought of choosing your hair replacement is a concern for you – firstly we must just say that the wigs of yester-year are long gone, thankfully. All the wigs that we stock and sell are of good quality and are not ‘wig like’ at all.

Karen has over 20 years experience of hairdressing and over 10 years experience of hair replacements and wigs. After we have selected the right wig for you, if it needs it, we will trim it to make it personal to you, so that you can wear your hair replacement with confidence as soon as you need it.   It is advisable to choose your wig as early as possible after knowing you will be starting chemotherapy, so that should you lose your natural hair in the early days of the treatment, you will have the wig ready and waiting.  Choosing it early, also has the added advantage of allowing us to see you with your natural hair, which will help us when selecting the wigs for you to try.

We carry a very large and varied stock at all times, but if we are not able to find a suitable wig for you on your first visit, we have hundreds of others for you to choose from in colour brochures, and these can be with us, usually, within 2 – 3 working days.
